About Counselling
Starting counselling can feel like a big step, and it’s natural to feel unsure about what to expect or about working with someone new.
Coping with life’s challenges can stretch our resilience. You might be finding that what usually helps isn’t working in the same way, be navigating something beyond your control, or feeling low or anxious while your inner critic tells you you ‘should’ be ok.
Many clients I work with describe feeling a sense of confusion and internal conflict, torn between their various needs, feelings, and reactions within the situations they face, and sometimes life in general.
This might include relationship difficulties, life transitions, loss, anxiety, work-related stress, or times when things simply feel uncertain or difficult to make sense of.
Much of my work focuses on supporting people through the situations and relationships they’re navigating, while gently exploring their relationship with themselves and what they value in life.
This space can bring a greater sense of autonomy through understanding and clarity. It can help you to feel more grounded, self-compassionate, connected to yourself and your own needs — and identify strategies to move forward in ways that feel right for you.
How I Work
Sessions are for you to have the time and space to talk openly about whatever is on your mind — whether that’s something specific, or a more general sense that things don’t feel quite right.
With a person-centred, empathic approach, I focus on building a trusting relationship where you feel safe to explore what’s going on for you.
There’s no expectation to be a certain way in sessions. You can come as you are, and you don’t need to have an agenda. Even just talking about your day, or where things feel unclear, can be a starting point. Clients often say they weren’t sure what to talk about at first and were surprised at how the conversation flowed — things tend to unfold naturally, and there’s no pressure.
I will listen, reflect and gently explore with you, helping to untangle your thoughts, feelings, and experiences, and how things are affecting you. Where it feels helpful, I may also offer strategies to support you along the way.
Whatever brings you to counselling, it’s your space to talk about what matters to you, in your own way, and at your own pace.
You might be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure where to begin — we can start wherever feels right for you.
